So let’s get to the oh’ what fun Elf posing!!!
*Before we get into it, if you currently don’t have a Elf of your own and want to get in on the fun, you can find it HERE*
Elf On The Shelf Ideas For Kids
The ARRIVES HUNGRY-ELF
Elves get hungry too, especially arriving from that long trip from up North! He’s definitely worked up an Elf-etite!
WHOOSE GETTING COAL?
Your kids will not believe their eyes when they catch Elf on the Shelf white-handed… filling stockings with coal!! He must have been keeping eyes all year to go to these measures! I borrowed these out of our lava rock flower bed out front! Oh, yea and peak our Kitchen Accent Wall in the background. I hung the stockings and set Elfie up on my mug rack.
BURNT TOAST
Get the kids to find Your Elf making breakfast. How about Burnt toast (or bagels in this case?!!!) Be careful little Elfie doesn’t start any fires when cooking your kids’ breakfast! He’s a terrible cook and is not a trained fireman but he will get a laugh for this one! I guess he thinks if coffee can be black then so can a piece of bread 😉
CAUGHT IN THE SHREDDER
First day back and he’s already going to need a first aid kit (that could be your next idea…so you don’t have to move him due to a hurt leg!) Elf on the shelf got his foot stuck in the shredder & trying to pull it back out. May be a little too late little guy!
CHICK-FIL-A BILLBOARD
My family loves chic fila! So howabouta Chick-fil-a Billboard!!! You could bring home dinner and pose this guy next to the take out bags. Tell them Elfie brought everyone dinner on his way to your house from the north pole! I used a letterboard, a mini ladder, and a cute little toy cow. Also, to make it look like a billboard I placed two wooden salt and pepper shakers I had underneath to raise it up.
SHARK BITE
Back to needing that first aid, oh golly, hope this wasn’t the same leg in the shredder or that Elf is in deep water! (pun intended LOL). This welcome back idea would be so cute if left with a little note by the sink saying maybe something like this…
Hello family…I’m back,
Went upstairs to wash up & unpack,
Didn’t know I would become a midnight snack,
& now I’m bleeding from a shark attack!
To re-create this one I filled up the sink with a little bit of water. I used my sons bath toy boat and double-sided tape, and taped a long strip on the back of the boat so it stuck to the sink (double-sided tape will be your new best friend, promise!) and so it wouldn’t flip with that top heavy elf. I also used a small peice of the tape on his foot so the shark would remain on the leg instead of going every which way. The blood is just red food coloring. I couldn’t capture the full effect with a photo but it’s the coolest seeing the fake blood fritter and mix with the water!
HANGING CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
This fun welcome back Idea has Elf on the shelf putting up Christmas lights. Let the kids find him hanging lights somewhere in your home! This is so easy to do using string lights. To make him stay in this position. I again, used that good ol’ double-sided tape and put a peice between the ladder and his tummy.
BESTIES
Perfect Welcome Back idea for taco night! Elf on the shelf creates a snowman with tortillas, a sauce packet, and a peice of shredded cheese for the nose cause they are “besties”!!! Taco-bout good friends!
PHONE BOOTH
When your Elf arrives he needs to make a call to Santa to “check in” and let Santa know he made a safe arrival! This clever Idea lets you’re kids know Elf on the shelf does keep in contact in Santa. Santa is just one phone call away! I used a Lantern for the phone booth, a toy phone and printed a small “phone booth” sign.
SHOVELING SNOW
Elf on shelf shoveling snow in his snow boots. He came prepared for the season! For this cute Idea I put on newborn size boots my son once wore (oh, how I miss those days), a plastic shovel I found from a sand castle kit and rolled up a spider web into a ball from my Halloween decorations (yes, you can use snow but I like to cheat and use anything accessible). He kept falling over so to keep him upright that double-sided tape came in handy again. I taped his hands to the handle and also put two pieces on the boots and pushed the shovel up against the boots so it would stick and he rested in this position.
BABY ON BOARD
What better way to kick off advent then with Elf on the Shelf arriving as taxi driver transporting Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus to the stable because there’s no room at the Inn. This is great to get children curious about the Christmas story! You could even include scripture readings with this one. Have your nativity shelter handy and the rest of the characters to have the kids help “make room for Jesus”.
NAUGHTY ELF
Show Elf’s naughty side with him sneaking some Xtra Hot Sauce in the pancake syrup When the kids wake to find him at breakfast!
EYEBROW WAX
The kiddos haven’t seen their elf in a year, he’s bound to look a little different. Or shall we say “un-maintained. Here, he’s getting an eyebrow wax! I achieved this one with double-sided tape as you can tell. A strip of it the Barbie is holding and I cut out eyebrows with the double-sided tape and stole beard hair from my husbands trimmings (HAHA!) and attached it to the tape. To make them extra thick I did add some super glue (wear gloves when pressing on the hair). Then after it dried, trimmed off the excess and longer peices around the fake brows.
I have to show you some close ups….I just have to!
I mean, he really needs them brows waxed. If you can’t cut an eyebrow worth a hoot, you can always trace a picture on google and cut it down. Ahem me, I can’t draw.
DECK THE “HALLS”
A little cough won’t ruin Elf’s Christmas spirit! Here that little Elf is “Decking The Halls” with Halls cough drops! He has quite a sense of humor…or sarcasm…I’m not sure!
HOT COCOA OVERLOAD
Elves have over-night watch duty and do not stay in one spot, How do they stay awake? Hot Cocoa! What happens if you drink too much hot cocoa? Elf On The Shelf knows to ask google after he had one too many cups.
DINOSAUR COMEDY
Best way for Elf on The Shelf to come back, well…wearing dino feet claw slippers (these are newborn size) and adding his snarky Christmas charm!
ELF FACE MASK
This has not been a typical year. Maybe the Pandemic is long gone, but a case of Covid has broke out in the North Pole. Santa has asked Elf to follow protocol when placed in the home. Here is Elf on The Shelf wearing his face mask as requested. You can make this quick DIY Face Mask HERE or you can buy an adorable mask to fit him HERE.
