Sharing a super cute Divine Mercy pipe cleaner art activity for Divine Mercy Sunday or teaching the kids about Divine Mercy devotion given to St. Faustina!

My kids are familiar with the Divine Mercy Image, as they see the Divine Mercy Jesus walking into church since it’s hanging on the back wall but how fun today the kids get to make their very own image of the Divine Mercy Jesus.

Divine Mercy

Today is March 18th and Divine Mercy Sunday is coming up on April 12th! We love a good Catholic feast day craft. What better way to incorporate faith and fun then with some Divine Mercy art featuring red and blue craft pipe cleaners.

There is a connecting biblical and sacramental significance to the rays that come forth from Our Lord. The red and blue rays are from the depths of Jesus’ mercy when his heart was opened by a soldier’s lance on the cross, corresponding to the account in the bible, John 19:34, where blood and water flowed from Jesus’ side after his death.

Kids of all ages will love this unique craft! I designed this printable recently for my kids to color and came across red and blue pipe cleaners when strolling through my craft store isle and that is how this craft inspiration came about.

It’s an adorable and fun printable to hang up in the house or in their room and plus they will be super proud of their craft skills which will surely complete it.

This Divine Mercy craft is ideal to make at home with your family, in a Sunday school, religion class and also a great activity for catholic homeschool too!

Coloring their sheet, then cutting and gluing the pipe cleaners are great for letting the kids get hands on with arts and crafts which is a blend of creative play and faith formation.

Parents and teachers, note, you may need to cut the pipe cleaners for them depending on the age. If you are doing the activity with a class of youngsters, then you can even precut them too and keep them close to grab when ready to glue.

The added inscription around the top of Jesus says the famous prayer, “Jesus I trust in you”. A meaningful prayer meant to be repeated, especially in times of anxiety, fear, or sufferings. Little ones too can be reminded to trust in his unfailing love and mercy.

Here is the process of making our Divine Mercy Art.

What You Will Need to Make This Divine Mercy Art

Jesus Divine Mercy Printable Template

cardstock paper

crayons and/or makers for coloring

glue (school glue or craft glue)

scissors

red and blue craft pipe cleaners (here are the ones I used from Walmart)

Divine Mercy Craft Instructions

Download your Divine Mercy Jesus printable template

Print it out on printer friendly cardstock paper (cardstock paper is recommended for its durability).

Color your Divine Mercy printable template if you choose to do so.

Cut the pipe cleaners down to size and glue the pipe cleaners down on the paper according to the rays, keeping the red to the left side of the page and the blue to the right side of the page.

Additional Craft Tips

As you can see from the photo, we opted to cut small pieces to appear going up to Jesus’ sacred heart. This is optional but adds a nice touch to the look of it. We also traced the wording with black marker to make it stand out.

FAQ

Where to Buy Pipe Cleaners for Crafts?

Pipe Cleaners are often known as chenille stems, fuzzy sticks, craft stems or fuzzy wires and you can find them almost anywhere. Check your local craft store like Hobby lobby or Micheals. I have seen them at Dollar Tree as well, though limited selection on colors.

As I mentioned above I found mine scrolling the Walmart craft isle, I linked them above. Another great place to buy them is Amazon!

Could This printable Be Used in Another Way?

Yes, absolutely. You could use it as a Jesus Divine Mercy Coloring page without adding the pipe cleaners or even substitute the pipe cleaners for yarn, straws, even glitter. I also like the idea of using transparent tissue paper for the red and blue rays. I actually just bought some tissue paper squares for an upcoming craft and plan on making it with my kids here soon then I’ll be back to share it with you! The ideas are endless.

Conclusion

My kids and I really enjoyed making this craft and I hope to make more like these available in the future.
