We’re sharing an enjoyably fun fingerprint craft for your little ones to help them become familiar with the bible verse John 3:16.
The verse recites “for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
The John 3:16 scripture verse pretty much sums up the whole gospel. Christ died for you and me! How do we explain the vast, sacrificial love of God in a way that a preschooler or elementary-aged child can actually grasp?
The answer lies in making it personal!
John 3:16 Craft
This John 3:16 Fingerprint craft bridges the gap between a big bible verse and a child’s heart. By combining a free printable, their own unique fingerprints, and a photo of their smiling face, this activity serves as visual, tangible reminder that Jesus didn’t just die for the world-in a general sense-he died for them.
So, if you have been looking for bible crafts for kids, you are in the right place. Whether you are a Sunday school teacher looking for the perfect weekend lesson, a homeschooling parent prepping a bible unit, or a mom wanting a meaningful rainy-day activity, this craft is low prep, high impact, and plain fun.
It would be fantastic as a Good Friday or cute Easter craft for Holy week too!

It can be a challenge to come up with things toddlers and preschool age can do that are both meaningful and hold their attention span.
My three-year-old is always trying to keep up with what the older ones can do. This fingerprint craft is great for any age, and I loved that all of our kids could join in and make one of their very own while reminding the kids of God’s great love demonstrated in John 3:16.
Alongside this one, my last bible activity “Jesus is the light craft” would also be a great one to try for littles. It entails letting the kids get creative by using yellow chalk on black cardstock paper to mimic the light of Christ shining forth from a flashlight.

What to Use for Fingerprints?
To make our fingerprint John 3:16 craft, you can use stamp ink pads for the fingerprints, or you can also use washable paint as well. We tried it both ways to give you an idea.

This one below is using the stamped ink fingerprints.

Below is using the washable paint that my three-year-old completed.

Including a photo of your little cutie’s face creates for a beautiful keepsake that will certainly be cherished for the years to come!
The Theology Behind This John 3:16 Craft: God Knows You
Before diving into the ink pads and paper, it’s wonderful to prep for an easy bible lesson.
Did you know that no two people on earth have the same fingerprints? Even identical twins have unique ridge patterns on their fingerprints. God designed every single child with an intentional, beautiful blueprint.
“Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” -Luke 12:7
When kids stamp their fingerprints onto their John 3:16 printable, it represents their unique identity. Combining that unique identity with John 3:16 teaches them that God’s love isn’t generic. He knows their name, he knows their story, and he sent his son for them specifically.

John 3:16 Craft – Easy Instructions
Print the John 3:16 template out on white cardstock paper.
Use your ink pads or washable paint and have your child fill the cross and numbers with their fingerprints.
After it dries, add your child’s photo, by cutting their face out and gluing the photo down in the blank space of cross.
John 3:16 Craft Creativity for Toddlers and Preschoolers
Younger toddlers might struggle with the precision of keeping fingerprints strictly inside the lines of the numbers. That is completely fine! Let them stamp their fingerprint freely. The goal is the process, not perfection. Focus heavily on the photo aspect, pointing to the picture saying, “Look! Jesus loves You!”
Final Thoughts
Years from now, those tiny fingerprints will look impossibly small. This craft pulls double duty as both a powerful Sunday school lesson and a treasured milestone keepsake for parents.
When we teach our children that they are individually loved by the Creator of the universe, we give them an unshakable foundation of identity and faith. We hope this simple printable brings joy, creativity, and deep spiritual conversations to your home or classroom ministry.
It truly makes our day to see your kids having fun and learning about the faith! Our kids have so much fun making them as well!
