Small Entryway Design

I’ve been wanting to work on our front entryway for months now and we finally got a start on it! I wanted our small entryway (or should I say small foyer, if were being fancy) to be warm and inviting, since it’s the first thing our guests see when coming through the front door. I also had a small budget to work with here. We plan on painting down the road but I’m slowly crossing things off the list as we get to them. Keep reading to see how our small entryway turned out and I’ll also share my simple foyer decorating ideas with you that help me update the space and will surely do the same for yours!

Whether your entryway is small, narrow or your just lacking entryway design ideas, I hope this post gives some inspiration and convinces you that you do not need to have huge furniture or overspend to make a big impact on your entryway.

Just because your entryway or foyer area is small does not mean it can’t be cute! Right?!

We kept our entryway on the simple side and fancied it up with some of my favorite entryway decor finds. This entryway table is fixed right when you walk in from the front door, so it permitted so much more space when people came in and didn’t feel as crowded next to the door as our other console table we had (which got moved to the living room).

Here is what the bigger size console table looked like in this space.

Look at all that space! Plenty of room for guests to step in, take their coats off and kick their shoes off. Here are some tips and ideas for an entryway, as well as how we completed our finished entryway look.

Small Entryway Design Tips:

// SMALL ENTRYWAY TABLE

If you are needing entryway furniture ideas, finding slim or narrow furniture for small spaces can definitely be a challenge, however, after a lot of shopping, I was super impressed with this beautiful, rounded console table. It was exactly what I was looking for and super affordable. The scalloped front is gorgeous! Be sure to measure your space to make the right furniture choice.

// ADD A MIRROR

Mirrors also get a name (rightfully so) for making an impact on small spaces. Reflecting light and making it feel bigger. Working with a small space we definitely wanted it to feel bigger. I went with this mirror, and I love how the light wood pairs with the black console table. It’s also the perfect location for a quick look or touch up when heading out the door.

// FUNCTIONAL BASKETS

With a smaller space, every square inch matters. While aesthetics is wonderful to look at, everyone needs functionality when designing any spaces. Baskets like the large one we used under the console table is perfect for extra storage and tucks right under the entry table, so it doesn’t take up any additional space in the room. Whether it’s storage for winter gear, purses, shoes, dog leaches, it makes a great hidden spot for the stuff you don’t want out but need quick access to.

// BRIGHTEN A SMALL ENTRYWAY SPACE

Some smaller spaces (aren’t I super lucky), especially hallway style foyers may have less or little to no windows which means limited natural lighting and the feeling of a dark small space. You can easily brighten it up and make it feel cozy with a lamp if you have electrical plugs close by your entry table or even some pretty battery-operated wall sconces on the sides of the mirror if not.

// RUG LOVE

The most obvious update for any small entryway is to add a rug. A rug can really warm up the space, protect the floor, and offer a soft place for feet to land when removing shoes. Our small hallway of an entryway allowed for a 2′-6″ x 9′-6″ runner, but this will depend on the design and size of your entryway. This is the runner I ended up going with and I adore all the colors in it and how it looks! If you have tile or wood flooring in your entryway space, you’ll want to also keep in mind if you order a rug that does not have a rubber backing, you will want to invest in some rug pads or something like that so that it will not slide all over the floor.

// FINAL DECOR FINISHINGS

Finishing with the fun part. Adding little pieces you love to complete the whole look. I’ve mentioned it before, but my favorite thing is layering a mirror or a large wall art with a good small print or piece of artwork. I got this vintage artwork from Target a while back (which I love) however, they no longer sell it unfortunately. If you need more ideas for how to decorate a console table you can check that out!

As you can see through the mirror, we’re currently working on the other side of our entryway and completing a gallery wall with some wall sconces beside them on that large wall. I linked the wall frames I used and candle wall sconces (above) and will be sharing that post with you here soon! Hope this post gave you some small entryway ideas so you can get started on your entryway.
